So for the last few weeks, I’ve been bombarded with ads or messages and challenges about the importance of sharing your story and it made me realise that I’ve never really shared how I got here and why is it so important for me to do this work.
Why is it so important for us to do what we do in this noisy, crazy world and now with social media, everything and I mean EVERYTHING is at our finger tips?
So I start at the beginning:
I found my love of all things nature at 8 years old. My dad who has been involved in Scouting for more than 50 years (and still is..) took my brother and I to hikes with the scouts regularly. I always enjoyed the smell of the fresh air, to touch the clear waters, to fall in the mud and get dirty..it was so much fun.
The Scouts have a conservation law that we all had to recite every time: “A scout always leaves a place cleaner that he met it”. We literally had to clean the paths we took each time. And that still holds true for me today, and yes, I still pick up after people when I go on hikes…
I love teaching, eco-friendly products and hate littering.
So I married my love of teaching and the environment and became an environmental educator. I kept hearing the same voices when it pertains to environmental issues but they all were saying the same things…I wanted to be different so I started Siel Environmental – to be the different voice among the many.
I started this with no money, after leaving a job where I wasn’t valued, having a complicated pregnancy (I was on bed rest for 2 months) to giving birth to our baby boy. I was scared, nervous but determined to help provide for my family. So I JUMPED!! I became an entrepreneur – a social one at that!
Although the concept of Social entrepreneurship isn’t quite understood in Trinidad and Tobago, I strive on, I move forward.
So tell me guys, what’s your story? Why do you do what you do for the environment?
Leave me a comment with your answer. I’m excited to read them
